A Path Through Tumultuous Times - A Self-Paced Online Learning Experience

INTRODUCTION

These are trying times for humanity:  it is hard to avoid awareness that things are already bad and rapidly getting worse.  And yet, this time is our lifetime — the only time we have to make sense of things and carve the stories of our lives. Perhaps we have a hazy understanding of what’s gone wrong, of why so many lives feel hollow, so many futures seem hopeless.  Perhaps we recognize that economic systems and social structures are collapsing around us, under the weight of their own deep flaws.

But we’re less sure of how we might prepare ourselves to weather this period of great transition, or how we might change direction to collectively survive -- and even thrive -- in the future.

This self-paced online offering is grounded in the insights of the late David Fleming, who presciently understood that the market economy was doomed, yet crafted a vision that has helped birth a global movement through its rare ability to inspire grounded hope and action.

Whether you’re completely new to exploring these issues, or perhaps have been engaging with them for decades while gradually watching things worsen, A Path Through Tumultuous Times offers just that.

This unique offering contains 70+ hours of content, to draw from and engage with as suits you and your learning style.

Including:

  • The full content of the book Surviving the Future: Culture, Carnival and Capital in the Aftermath of the Market Economy (as audio, text or both)
  • Videos from facilitator Shaun Chamberlin guiding you through the course, and reflecting on the contents
  • Pre-recorded webinars from distinguished guest contributors (see below)
  • Supplementary articles and reading, selected to draw out deeper nuances
  • Discussion questions to be explored with Shaun and other course participants/alumni in the course forums
  • Video segments — ranging from film clips to songs! — created or curated to cast further light on the subjects at hand
  • Live sessions hosted by StF alumni, to discuss the content you are engaging with
  • Guided (and open) access to LeanLogic.online
  • Entertaining audio clips from the late David Fleming

After moving through which, you will...

  • Possess new perspective on — and deepened understanding of — what is unfolding on our planet and in our cultures
  • Be aware of a range of meaningful pathways that might be walked in response
  • Have access to an active and richly fortifying global network of people navigating these times of profound change, together.

COMMUNITY

In creating A Path Through Tumultuous Times we have tried to honour two seemingly contrary impulses.

On the one hand, we heard the calls for an offering that would be available to people year-round, to take in their own time, at their own speed and in their own style.

On the other, conversation and community are at the heart of all the Surviving the Future offerings, and we didn't want to lose that magic...

Our solution is to offer you options!  As you move through the course you will find that you can treat it entirely as a solo experience, fitting it into your lifestyle as you will.

Or if you're keen to, you'll find many opportunities for meaningful interaction with others, beyond the pre-recorded.  Course facilitator Shaun Chamberlin will be engaging with your posts in our forum and at LeanLogic.online (as will other course participants and StF alumni), our alumni will be hosting optional live spaces for you to join, and we have a 24/7 Zoom room where you can set up live conversations as you wish.  There is also a Zoom gathering of StF participants past and present on the first Friday of each month, to which you will be invited for more chances to connect with our global community.

As ever with community, what you get out will have a lot to do with what you put in!
While those walking a more solitary path are warmly welcomed and provided for.

Perhaps being made aware that we are on the brink of a massive change has made me reevaluate my life and the things that are important to me. Let's do this!!”
  • “It changed the way I think, broke through some of my fixed perspectives, brought comfort.”

  • “You are doing a fantastic job at holding space for people in transitioning and the process of learning, letting go and move beyond. This work is dearly needed and will be more so in the near future.”
